- Bustan al-Salatin
Introduction
- The Bustan al-Salatin of Nur al-Din Muhammad b. `Ali b. Hasanji Hamid al-Raniri is a
copious work of universal history. Its scope is conveyed by
the summary quoted below, taken from Siti Hawa's edition of Bab II, Fasal 13. Al-Raniri's authorship of this fasal has been questioned.
- Bab I: Mengisahkan kejadian tujuh petala langit dan bumi, kejadian Nur Muhammad, malaikat, jin dan iblis. Bab ini terdiri daripada sepuluh fasal.
- Bab II: Menyatakan kisah nabi-nabi daripada Nabi Adam `alaihi'l-salam hinggalah kepada Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. Juga kisah tentang raja-raja Parsi, Byzantium, Mesir dan Arab. Terdiri daripada tiga belas fasal semuanya.
- Bab III: Menyatakan segala raja yang adil dan wazir yang berakal. Bab ini terdiri daripada enam fasal.
- Bab IV: Menyatakan segala raja yang bertapa dan wali-wali yang salihin. Bab ini terdiri daripada dua fasal.
- Bab V: Mengisahkan segala raja yang zalim dan wazir yang aniaya. Bab ini terdiri daripada dua fasal.
- Bab VI: Mengisahkan segala orang yang murah lagi mulia dan segala orang yang berani dan besar. Bab ini terdiri daripada dua fasal.
- Bab VII: Mengemukakan berbagai-bagai hal dalam lima fasal termasuk tentang akal, ilmu dan firasat dan kifarah, ilmu tabib, segala sifat yang ada pada perempuan dan setengah daripada segala hikayat yang ajaib dan ghairah.

- The critical edition made by Sitti Hawa drew on four manuscripts:

- [A] Raffles Malay 42 (MS A), Royal Asiatic Society, London -- copied in or before 1812.
- [B] Raffles Malay 8 (MS B), Royal Asiatic Society, London -- copied after 1807, probably about 1810.
- [C] MS no. 41, University of Malaya Library, Kuala Lumpur -- copied 1815 or 1816.
- Sitti Hawa based her text on the Leiden manuscript, filling some lacunae from MS C, and correcting readings against MS A, B and C. She provides detailed notes of variant readings.
- The markings used by Siti Hawa to indicate additions and omissions have been standardised in the MCP text. Thus
