- The text is taken from a typescript manuscript in rumi script. Fawzi Basri has modernised the spelling and edited it lightly. Material that he has added to clarify the meaning of the text has generally been omitted.
- The text covers the history of Johor from 1685 to 1917 mainly from a genealogical perspective. The second part provides a digest of royal custom, with brief notes under a number of headings:
