Editorial notes
Liaw Yock Fang's text is a synthetic edition based on critical readings of five principal manuscripts, and reference to others.  There is therefore no single manuscipt of the text which can be dated.  The principles of the edition are set out in Chapter V of Liaw's edition.  Liaw gives many further references to the scholarly literature.
The markings used by Liaw to indicate additions and omissions have been standardised in the MCP text. Thus:
( )  indicates matter in the text which should be omitted.  Liaw has [ ]
[ ]  indicates matter lacking from the text.  Liaw has ( )
«[ ]» emendations to the text made by Liaw.  Liaw has < >
