Notes

Panglima Raja Di Hilir, the writer of letters 1-5, was head of the local chiefs (Penghulu kepala) of Padang appointed by Dutch.  He was assisted by twelve panghulus.  Their task was acting as a bridge between the Dutch and the native inhabitants of Padang.

Panglima Raja Jalil was a small king of Padang in the late 19th century.

Tengku Lebai Dap[h]a was a founding figure of the local Kingdom of Trumon and Singkil in weast coast of Aceh.  He was grandfather of the famous Trumon king, Raja Bujang.
